MTBS Athletics

When: Friday 3 February 2012

If you have never witnessed the opening ceremony of a MTBS athletics meet, you have missed something.

MTBS refers to the schools participating (DF Malan (M), Tygerberg, Bellville and Stellenberg).

Spectators usually start taking their seats as early as 05:00 to get the best seats for the ceremony.

During the ceremony each school then gets the opportunity to perfom.

It really is something worthwhile to see.

The Michaelis Collection

The Michaelis Collection, Cape Town Blog, Cape Town

The Michaelis Collection was donated by Sir Max Michaelis in 1914 and consists of a world-renowned selection of Nederlandish art from the seventeenth-century Golden Age. The collection is housed in the Old City Hall next to Greenmarket Square.

There are works by Frans Hals, Jan Steen, Jacob Ruisdal and Anthony van Dyck.

Atlantic Rail

If you are looking for something different to do, why not join Atlantic Rail for a steam train ride from Cape Town to Simons Town.

On the trip the railway line skirts the ocean as it travels through Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and Glencairn coming to an end in Simonstown with a view of the naval dockyard.

The popular Castle Cape Town Tens rugby event, the brainchild of former Springbok legends Bob Skinstad and Rob Fleck, at the Hamilton Rugby Club.

Expect an exciting music line up, appearances from local and international rugby legends, competitions and giveaways, and a new addition, an exciting rugby expo.

With three rugby fields, beer and food tents, kiddies play areas, as well as a host of rugby legends and SA personalities, there is plenty to experience both on and off the rugby field for the whole family.

Koeberg Nature Reserve

The Koeberg Nature Reserve is a private reserve of 3000 ha around the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station.

There are two hiking trails on the reserve.

The Dikkop Trail is a 13 km circular walk including a 2km walk along the beach.

The Grysbok Trail is a two hour walk and includes a stretch along the beach, which is a restricted area because it is the breeding site of a variety of birds including the endangered Black Oystercatcher.
