The South African Museum
The South African Museum is noted for its huge natural science and social history collections. As a matter of fact, it houses more than one-and-a half million specimens of scientific importance that scientists have been adding to for more than 200 years. Founded in 1825, the Museum moved to its present building in the historic
Company's Garden
in 1897.

The collections now range from fossils 700 million years old to insects and fish caught last week. Some of the favourite exhibitions are soapstone objects from the Zimbabwe Ruins and lifelike reconstructions of fossils found in the Karoo.
