West Coast (Cape Town) Ostrich RanchFor many years the West Coast Ostrich Ranch has been offering a unique ostrich experience to visitors of the Western Cape. Situated only twenty minutes from Cape Town's Waterfront, this is a very popular tourist destination. The farm nestles on the sea facing slopes of the Durbanville Hills, which offer magnificent views of Table Mountain and the Hottentots Holland Mountains. ToursGuided tours are run every half an hour, but for booked groups a tour guide is assigned to the group for the duration of their visit. An experienced tour guide will explain the origin and reasons for Ostrich farming, while enlightening you on facts about the largest bird in the world. The tour comprises of a forty-five minute informative trail through a display room, the leather factory, the incubator and the cactus garden.
Birds you will see, include West Coast white ostriches, dwarf ostriches, black neck ostriches, emus, rheas, peacocks, ostrich chicks. It is not uncommon to see chicks that have just hatched or witness an egg being laid. The highlight of the trail is the ostrich show, where each member of the tour has the opportunity to sit on a live ostrich. RestaurantThe restaurant can seat 150 people in a Cape Dutch Styled Farm House.
