If you have never witnessed the opening ceremony of a MTBS athletics meet, you have missed something. MTBS refers to the schools participating (DF Malan (M), Tygerberg, Bellville and Stellenberg). Spectators usually start taking their seats as early as 05:00 to get the best seats for the ceremony. During the ceremony each school then gets the opportunity to perfom. It really is something worthwhile to see.

The Koeberg Nature Reserve is a private reserve of 3000 ha around the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station. There are two hiking trails on the reserve. The Dikkop Trail is a 13 km circular walk including a 2km walk along the beach. The Grysbok Trail is a two hour walk and includes a stretch along the beach, which is a restricted area because it is the breeding site of a variety of birds including the endangered Black Oystercatcher.

Blaauwklippen is one of the oldest working wine farms in South Africa and was even owned by Cecil John Rhodes, if only for a day. All the buildings are original but beautifully restored, including the Carriage Museum, which houses a collection of antique carriages. At the wine centre you get to smell the different herbs and spices that are characteristic of their wines.

Visiting Cape Point Nature Reserve is really a nice outing. I was there again yesterday and the view of the cliffs at the point once again blew me away. It is really something to see. The only negative is the baboons that are a real nuicance and are always trying to snatch your food. This trip must be savoured and therefore you must allow yourself a day so that you can make the drive there part of the outing, stopping off at Kalk Bay or Imhoff Farm.
